It is well known fact that immense use of Pesticides and Fertilizers has led to enormous levels of chemical buildup in the environment,soil, water, air, animals and even in our own bodies.Organic agriculture is a holistic production management system that promotes the health of the agro-ecosystem related to biodiversity, nutrient biological cycles , soil the health of the agro-ecosystem related to biodiversity ,nutrient biological cycles, soil microbial and bio chemical activity . NAFED initiated the business of organic farming under the aegis of NATIONAL HORTICULTURAL MISSION and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna in the year 2007 with a vision to promote adoption of non chemical form of cultivation practices amongest the farmers. Another objective of venturing into this area i to explore and generate additional business avenues for the Federation . Presently NAFED is implementing 5 projects valuing approximately Rs 65 Crore in the state of Uttar Pradesh , Bihar, and Punjab under Organic Adoption and Certification . About 30,000 farmers are registered under these projects in an area of approximately 51,000 hectares .
